The task of every Christian is to love God fully and to love our neighbors and ourselves equally.
Hear, O Israel: The LORD your God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. (Deut 6:4–5)
You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin...but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. (Lev 19:17–18)
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matt 22:40)
The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. (Discipline ¶120)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. (Matt 28:19–20a)
Through God's grace, we will be one family that provides a safe place for all to come and grow their knowledge, faith, and love for God.
The First United Methodist Church of Victor celebrates the truth that all persons are created in God's image and therefore all people people are of sacred worth. We are a faith community that welcomes and values all people, regardless of their age, race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, family configuration, religious background, economic status, or developmental and physical abilities. We embrace the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of FUMCoV as we worship, learn, and work together to grow disciples for Jesus Christ. It is our desire that the world will know and be transformed by His unconditional love.
We fulfill our mission by proclaiming the good news of God's grace, seeking the fulfillment of God's reign, and perfecting our love through the work of the Holy Spirit. God's grace is active everywhere, at all times, carrying out God's purpose as revealed in the Bible. It is expressed in the covenant with Abraham and Sarah, in the Exodus of Israel from slavery in Egypt, and in the witness of the prophets. It is fully embodied in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and in the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit to perfect our love for God and one another.
The United Methodist Church affirms that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Lord of all. However, we also recognize that God is at work beyond the boundaries of our own community and understanding. As we make disciples, we respect persons of all religious faiths and we defend religious freedom for all persons.
