Outreach

Serving in Our Community

Our hearts and hands reach out locally and globally. Our community of faith is involved with outreach in many ways:

Clothes Closet logoVictor UMC Clothes Closet

Shopping: We carry a wide variety of good quality, seasonal clothes and shoes, as well as linens and other items. If you are in need of anything, please stop by and shop for free, no questions asked. Open Mondays 4–6 pm; Wednesdays & Saturdays 10 am–noon.

Back-to-School: Each July–August, you can sign up to receive up to two backpacks per household through the Clothes Closet. Our church blesses the backpacks each year with a prayer that your children will have a safe, healthy, and happy school year.

Donations: Our donations shed is open 24/7 throughout the year. You can find it just off the driveway to the right of the church (from Main St.), near the accessible entrance.

Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer to help sort clothes or support shoppers, you can call or text Karen Hansen (585-703-7421) or leave a message for her at the church office.

Family Promise of Ontario County logoFamily Promise

For four weeks each year (once a quarter), we serve as a Host Congregation for Family Promise of Ontario County.

Prior to COVID, this meant hosting families at the church, providing lodging and meals, playing with children and helping with homework, etc. Since 2020, Family Promise has moved to a new model in which families are housed in apartments provided by the organization. This offers the families a bit more stability over moving every week.

Our support is still crucial, however! During Hosting Week, we provide clothes for the families via our Clothes Closet (see below), and gift cards to help with purchasing food and gas. We also provide volunteers to help with apartment repairs and preparing apartments for new families to move in.

Currently, FPOC supports families in four apartments (and counting!), as well as five "graduate" families who have moved out of FPOC housing but still need some support as they move closer to full independence.

Victor Farmington Food Cupboard logoVictor/Farmington Food Cupboard

We support the Victor/Farmington Food Cupboard with food donations as well the annual fundraising event to support those who are hungry in the local Victor/Farmington area.

We provide school supplies for children through the Victor/Farmington Food Cupboard: pencils, composition notebooks, crayons, lined loose leaf paper, large pink erasers, pocket folders, scissors, glue sticks rulers, colored pencils, and pens (red, blue and black).

Serenity House logoSerenity House

We assist in the mission of Serenity House (a home in Victor for the specialized care of the terminally ill, their families and loved ones) through volunteer work and other services.

Fellowship in Town

We are one of the churches who has helped to host the Community Dinner at the First Presbyterian Church, where the Victor community gathers for a meal.

Our faith community shares with the Victor community annually on Home Town Day in September.

UMCOR logoUMCOR

We respond to national and global disaster through emergency relief efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Most recently, we have raised funds to support disaster recovery in Haiti and Japan and to support displaced Ukranian citizens in the midst of the ongoing war.
